Former Chicago Bears quarterback Chase Daniel recently spoke out about the team’s decision to trade Justin Fields and what the future may hold for the franchise. During an appearance on NBC Sports Chicago’s “Football Night in Chicago,” Daniel expressed his thoughts on the trade and the potential of drafting USC’s Caleb Williams.
Daniel, who believes the Bears should have kept Fields and built around him, was surprised by the timing and return of the trade. He noted that Fields had already won over the locker room and the city with his work ethic, leadership, and toughness. The Bears traded Fields to the Pittsburgh Steelers for a sixth-round pick, which was a lower return than many had anticipated.
One of the reasons for the lower return was reportedly due to Fields requesting to be traded to the Steelers, limiting the Bears’ bargaining power. However, Daniel suggested that the Bears could have waited until later in the season to trade Fields in hopes of receiving a better return.
With Fields now out of the picture, the Bears have the opportunity to draft a new quarterback with the No. 1 pick in the upcoming draft. Daniel believes that the team has the key pieces in place to support a rookie quarterback like Williams, or any other quarterback they may bring in.
As the offseason progresses, all eyes will be on the Bears as they navigate this new chapter without Fields at the helm. With Daniel’s insights and the potential of drafting a top quarterback prospect, the future looks promising for Chicago as they aim to revamp their roster and return to contention in the NFC North.
