At least five people were killed and more than 30 others were injured in a recent Russian missile attack on Odesa, according to reports. Dramatic video footage has emerged showing bomblets exploding in the seafront area, causing widespread destruction.
Among the damaged buildings was an educational institution often referred to as the “Harry Potter castle” due to its unique architecture. Metal fragments and debris were recovered from the attack site, with nearly 20 residential buildings and infrastructure facilities also impacted.
Ukraine believes that Russia used an Iskander missile and cluster munitions in the attack, despite the use of cluster munitions being prohibited by international treaty. It is worth noting that both sides in the conflict have reportedly used cluster munitions.
Two children and a pregnant woman were among those injured in the attack, which also led to the temporary closure of a bridge linking Crimea to Russia. Russian officials claim that they intercepted a major missile and drone attack by Ukraine, alleging that the attack was carried out using US-supplied Army Tactical Missile Systems.
As the story continues to develop, people have been warned not to approach any unexploded ordinance left behind by the attack. Despite Russia’s claims, Ukraine has not commented on the situation. Few videos or images of the explosions have emerged, leaving many questions unanswered. Stay tuned for further updates on this tragic incident.
