Apple is looking to cut costs with its upcoming iPhone SE 4 by reportedly paying less than a quarter for the LTPS AMOLED display compared to its flagship models. According to reports, Samsung Display is refusing to deliver the display at the price Apple is offering.
Leaked CAD images suggest that the iPhone SE 4 will adopt the design of the iPhone 14, featuring a smaller camera module and a single rear camera. The display of the iPhone SE 4 will be a 6.1-inch LTPS OLED panel with a resolution of 2532 x 1170 and a frame rate of 60 Hz, similar to the iPhone 14.
Apple is planning a 2025 launch for the iPhone SE 4 with an expected production volume of up to 15 million units. Samsung Display has reportedly withdrawn from negotiations after Apple rejected their offer of $30 per display, with Apple aiming to pay only $25 per display and looking towards Chinese manufacturers such as BOE for production.
Interestingly, the display of the iPhone 15 Pro Max, which cost Apple $115 at launch, was also supplied by Samsung Display. Apple’s decision to use a cheaper display for the iPhone SE 4 is part of an effort to save money on components for the more affordable model, which will combine the design of the iPhone 14 with a single 48 MP camera and a modern processor.
With Apple focusing on cost-saving measures for its budget-friendly iPhone SE 4, it will be interesting to see how consumers respond to a more affordable option with premium features. Stay tuned for more updates on this highly anticipated release.
