California Couple Discovers Potential Cure for Deadly Dog Respiratory Disease
A California couple claims to have found a potential cure for Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease Complex (CIRDC), a respiratory condition that has been spreading among dogs across the country. Their golden retriever, Ike, was on the brink of death from CIRDC but made a miraculous recovery after receiving a life-saving antibiotic.
Ike was competing in dog shows in September when he contracted CIRDC and was immediately placed under quarantine at a veterinarian’s office. Despite multiple tests, vets were unable to determine the cause of Ike’s illness until he was finally diagnosed with CIRDC. It was there that a stranger recommended using chloramphenicol, an antibiotic commonly used for treating conjunctivitis in humans.
