In a recent post on Threads, Mark Zuckerberg publicly criticized Apple’s Vision Pro, stating that if Meta’s Quest were to be like Vision Pro in five years, it would be a significant regression. The Facebook CEO exchanged messages with Mosaic Ventures partner Benedict Evans, discussing the “tradeoffs” in Apple’s new VR headset.
Zuckerberg firmly believes that Apple’s VR headset is inferior to Meta’s Quest, citing limitations and pricing differences. He highlighted that while Apple is currently selling the device Meta aims to reach in the future, Quest is already being sold at the price point Apple hopes to achieve in the future.
The debate between Zuckerberg and Evans brings attention to the differing strategies and technologies used by the two tech giants in the virtual reality space. As Meta continues to push the boundaries of VR with its Quest headset, Apple’s Vision Pro seems to fall short in terms of innovation and capabilities.
It remains to be seen how Apple will respond to Zuckerberg’s criticisms and whether they will make any changes to their VR headset in light of this feedback. In the meantime, consumers will have to decide for themselves which VR headset offers the best value and experience for their needs.
