Google Messages to Introduce New Setting to Disable Reaction and Screen Effects
In a recent development, Google Messages is set to add a new setting that will allow users to potentially turn off Reaction and Screen Effects within the app. The new setting, called “Show expressive animations,” is currently live for some beta users but has not yet been rolled out to the stable channel.
When enabled, expressive animations in the form of Reaction and Screen Effects will be turned on by default. However, users will have the option to disable these animations in the settings. Once disabled, Screen and Reaction Effects will be removed, and Animated Emoji will be replaced by regular emoji characters.
This new setting will provide users with a more specific preference within Google Messages, as they currently have the option to remove animations system-wide across Android. Some users have found Reaction Effects to be overwhelming, particularly with commonly used emoji like thumbs up and hearts. Similarly, Screen Effects can unexpectedly take over the screen with phrases such as “I love you” or “Sounds good.”
The upcoming setting may impact Animated Emoji within the app but should not affect Photomoji. These changes were brought to light through the JEB Decompiler tool, enabling some APK Insight teardowns for Google Messages.
Overall, the introduction of this new setting will offer users more control over the animations within the app, catering to those who prefer a less flashy messaging experience. Although not yet available to all users, the option to disable Reaction and Screen Effects is set to provide a more personalized messaging experience on Google Messages.
