Ramadan in War-Torn Gaza: A Month of Hardship and Suffering
As the holy month of Ramadan arrives in war-torn Gaza, Palestinians are facing extreme difficulties including famine, disease, and bombings. The United Nations recently released a report citing 25 deaths from malnutrition and dehydration, with the majority of victims being children.
Accessing aid in northern Gaza has become increasingly challenging, leading to shortages during Ramadan. Residents in the city of Rafah are reportedly forced to rely on canned food and beans for their iftar meals, instead of the traditional dishes they would normally enjoy during the holy month.
Displaced individuals living in tents are struggling to find enough food to break their fast each day. Despite calls for peace during Ramadan, fighting across Gaza continues unabated.
Amidst the destruction, some residents are finding ways to celebrate Ramadan. Many are decorating their tents and offering prayers in ruined mosques as a way to uphold the spirit of the holy month.
Despite the ongoing hardships, the resilience and determination of Gaza’s displaced population to observe Ramadan is a testament to their unwavering faith and steadfastness in the face of adversity.
