Title: NASA Releases Timelapse Video of Moon Rocket Construction Ahead of 2024 Launch
NASA’s highly anticipated moon mission is making significant progress as the space agency prepares to send astronauts to the lunar surface by 2024. In an exciting development, NASA has released a timelapse video showcasing the construction of a moon rocket for the upcoming mission.
The astounding footage reveals the meticulous assembly of the rocket boosters, each weighing a staggering 1.6 million pounds, at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center. These boosters, which were constructed in Utah, have now arrived at the facility, marking a major milestone in the mission’s progression.
Currently, the primary focus is on meticulously assembling the aft assembly of each booster, which plays a crucial role in steering the boosters during launch. Due to their massive size, weighing 150 tons each, the booster segments require meticulous handling using two 200-ton cranes to ensure their safe transportation and placement.
The fully assembled boosters will consist of five segments, adapting the design from the space shuttle program’s booster. However, these boosters will be taller to support the larger Space Launch System, an essential component of the ambitious moon mission.
Once the aft assembly work is completed, the booster segments will be moved to the Vehicle Assembly Building at Kennedy Space Center for further assembly on the mobile launcher. Currently, the mobile launcher is undergoing vital testing at Launch Pad 39A, further solidifying the progress being made for the 2024 mission.
Simultaneously, the four selected astronauts for the mission are undergoing intensive training to familiarize themselves with the Orion spacecraft, the vehicle that will transport them to the moon and back. As part of their preparations, the astronauts are scheduled to perform a splashdown simulation test in late 2023.
The comprehensive training flow for the team is estimated to take approximately 18 months, ensuring they are well-prepared for the challenges they will face during the mission. Meanwhile, dedicated mission teams are tirelessly working to finalize procedures and hardware needed for the successful execution of the moon landing.
With every passing milestone, excitement is building among scientists, enthusiasts, and the public as humanity inches closer to returning to the moon. The Bib Theorists will continue to monitor the progress of NASA’s moon mission, providing updates as the highly anticipated 2024 launch draws near.
